Building Equitable Planning Systems

Viswali Consulting works with organizations to develop strategies and action plans for building more equitable policies, anti-racist practices, and inclusive workplace cultures. We recognize that change does not always happen overnight, and that empathy, time, patience, self-study, and discernment are necessary to facilitate the internal changes required in an organization. We work collaboratively with our clients to explore the different histories, purposes, and experiences of participants involved in effecting systems change.

OPPI Anti-Black Racism in Planning Task Force

The Ontario Professional Planner’s Institute (OPPI) retained, Viswali Consulting to support the Anti-Black Racism in Planning Task Force to develop a strategy and action plan to remove systemic barriers in the planning practice that perpetuate anti-Black racism against Black communities and disproportionately limit employment opportunities for and representation of Black planners in the planning profession. Task Force members engaged in conversations from January to September 2021 following a process of discussion, recommendation development and revision to generate draft final recommendations for OPPI Council approval. Leela’s ability to turn task force conversations into insightful recommendations and commentary for our Council’s approval was exceptional… Her editorial mastery provided our Task Force with many documents, charts, and the final report; most requiring little, if any, changes.
